Introducing our New Business Development Manager for Northern England and Scotland

By Ryan Taylor

Introducing Neil Manning, a seasoned professional with 25 years of experience in the sign and graphics industry. Neil recently started his new role as Manufacturing Business Development Manager at Smith, so we sat down to find out a bit more about his thoughts on the industry and what he expects to bring to this new and exciting role.

Q: Neil, can you share a bit about your background in the Sign and Graphics industry and your new role at Smith Trade Signage?

A: I've been involved in the Print and Signage Industry for over 25 years, navigating through litho and screen-printing to large format digital printing. My experience also extends to managing Acrylic Fabrication, Machine Shop, CNC, and Joinery, leading to my expertise in Tray Signage and Built-up Letters. This diverse background now feeds into my new role at Smith Trade Signs, where I aim to enhance our market presence and strengthen our trade relationships.

Q: What were your first impressions of the business?

A: What appealed to me about Smith was the company's established reputation and the team's welcoming nature. In my first week, I was genuinely humbled by the friendliness and helpfulness of everyone I met.

Q: What aspects of your new role are you most excited about?

A: I'm looking forward to working closely with the team at Smith, engaging with our customers, and highlighting the excellent services we provide. There's a great opportunity to contribute to the business's growth and expand our customer base to an even wider audience.

Q: How do you plan to apply your past experiences to your new role at Smith?

A: My past roles have equipped me with a deep understanding which I'll use to help our clients succeed in securing business, quotes, and tenders. My hands-on experience will be invaluable in my new position as I can relate to a lot of the common issues they need to navigate.

Q: In your opinion, what sets Smith apart from other trade manufacturers?

A: It's not just about the quality, workmanship, and efficient lead times at Smith. What sets us apart is our personalised approach to customer care and communication. We focus on understanding and meeting the unique needs of each client.

Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

A: I'm a big football fan, and I love spending time watching Huddersfield Town with my family and friends and watching my boys play. I'm also into golf, although I admit I could use a bit more practice!

Q: Finally, how would you sum up Smith Trade Signage in one word?

A: Established.
